Meet Amy Durham

Hello,
I’m Amy Durham, a leading experienced Certified Birth Doula providing families in the Northern Virginia and Washington D.C. area with holistic & evidenced based maternity care.
I have been a doula for nearly 10 years and have attended over 500+ births!
Birth is absolutely magical! Caring for women and families as they welcome a new baby earth-side is such an honor!
Get to Know Me…
I was born and raised on the beaches of sunny southern California and I now call Northern Virginia home. I am a wife, and mother to 4 fun loving children who teach me daily about the important things in life. I enjoy reading (one can never have too many books!), charming coffee shops, dark chocolate with sea salt anything, organic gardening, and spending time with friends and family.

Benefits of Hiring a Solo Doula
Mother Nurture Care is not a big-box doula agency, or an office with a large staff. As a private practice I provide one-on-one intimate support uniquely tailored to your individual needs.
You know EXACTLY who your doula will be on the big day!
No on call schedules or rotations here, or wondering which person from a group practice will show up during one of your most vulnerable times. Rest easy knowing I will be the doula with you when you welcome your baby into the world!
Providing one-on-one support throughout your pregnancy. We will build a connection together over several months time, fostering trust, comfort together, and communication.
Guaranteed backup in the *rare* case two people are in labor at the same time.

My Philosophy
I believe our bodies instinctively and intuitively know how to labor and give birth, and that we should trust and respect those processes. I believe pregnancy, birth, and breastfeeding are natural, normal, functions of a woman’s life, and in most cases–are not an emergency to be feared.
I believe in honoring the labor and birth experience as a sacred one, which has the power to be a transformative life event. As a doula I am here to support and encourage your innate inner wisdom and hold space for you.
I believe a woman’s confidence and ability to give birth can be either strengthened or diminished by those who care for her. Those around her can influence her progress or hinder it if they do not trust the process.
I believe that there are as many ways to give birth as there are women in the world, and there is no one right way–just the way that is right for YOU!. I believe a woman should labor and birth where she feels most comfortable. I support that choice whether it is at home, in a hospital, or a birth center.
I believe that every woman has the right to be an active participant in her own birth experience. I believe that if you don’t know your options, you don’t have any! I believe in true informed consent–parents being given balanced, evidenced based information about the risks and benefits of procedures, so that they can make decisions about what are right for them and their baby. As a doula it is part of my job to help you access this information.
I believe having a doula is an excellent way to ensure a laboring woman feels respected and supported!
