Birth Support

I’m Amy Durham, a birth doula serving the Northern Virginia, and Washington D.C. area. My passion is supporting women and their families as they welcome a new baby into their lives! Below, you will find information on the services I provide and prices.

Complimentary Consultation

During this introductory visit you and I will become acquainted and decide if we are a good match for one another. We will discuss what your needs are from a doula, and what your priorities are for birth. This in person interview takes place at a neutral location such as a coffee shop and is free of charge.

1-2 Prenatal Visits

During these visits we will get to know each other better. We will discuss your birth preferences, labor positions, comfort techniques, and what to expect, so that you can stay calm and confident during your birthing time.

Bonus! “Preparing for Birth” prenatal guide book

New for 2018! Preparing for Birth is a full color, complete guide for labor, birth and postpartum education.  We will utilize it during your prenatal visits and for your own information at home.  It covers common childbirth education topics including the stages of labor, comfort measures, interventions, postpartum recovery, newborn care and the basics of breastfeeding.

On Call Support

After you hire me, I am available for support through email, phone, and text to answer any questions or concerns you might have before birth.

Labor Support

Once you are in active labor I will meet you at your chosen location, whether it be the hospital, birth center, or your home. As labor progresses, my role is to provide you with the empowerment, comfort and support you desire throughout labor, and to stay by your side during the birth. Once baby is born, I can assist in initiating skin-to-skin contact for you and your baby, the first feeding session, and help you get comfortable until you are ready for some family time alone together.

Postpartum Visit

After you settle in at home as a new family, we will schedule a postpartum home visit to take place within the first two weeks of delivery. During this visit, I will check in with you to see how you are doing both physically and emotionally, and discuss how you feel about your birth experience. We will also talk about how breastfeeding is going, and I will answer any newborn care questions you may have. I can provide referrals to community resources if needed as well.
